Metairie is the first suburb of New Orleans, Louisiana, located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain between the cities of New Orleans, with its wonderful French Quarter, Superdome, Aquarium, Zoo, and Convention Center, and Kenner, where the New Orleans International Airport, Rivertown, and the Pontchartrain Center are located.
Metairie is located below sea level and has large annual Mardi Gras celebrations as part of the greater New Orleans metropolitan area. The world's longest bridge, the twin span, 24-mile long Lake Pontchartrain Causeway connects Metairie to the towns of Covington, Mandeville and Madisonville on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain. I-10 Louisiana's busiest Interstate runs through the heart of Metairie. Clearview Cam shows traffic conditions on I-10. Metairie is positioned 29.99 degrees north of the equator and 90.17 degrees west of the prime meridian.
