Louisiana Courts
The District Court for Jefferson Parish (the 24th Judicial District Court) is located on the Westbank in Gretna. The Court handles Criminal , Domestic and Civil Cases.  The Louisiana 5th Circuit Court of Appeals is also located in Gretna within the same complex of buildings.  Parking can be difficult and it's a fairly long drive from Metairie to the Gretna Courthouse.  Filings through the Clerk of Court and other limited services are offered in the Yenni Building in Elmwood (still not Metairie, but much closer than Gretna).

Metairie has First Parish Court and the Justice of the Peace Court,  relatively smaller courts that can handle only certain types of cases. Metairie is included within the area of the U.S. "Eastern" District for the StateFortunately, none of the Courthouses in Jefferson Parish have steps like this. of Louisiana and the U. S. Court of Appeals for Louisiana and two other states (the US 5th Circuit) both of whom have their Courthouses in New Orleans. The Louisiana 5th Circuit in Gretna and the U.S. 5th Circuit in New Orleans are completely separate and unrelated court systems.
